Services for Employers
“Hiring a person from COVA is just the best thing you can do. It’s been a win-win situation for us.”
- Bill Reiber, CEO, Columbus Paperbox
Studies have shown that people in recovery are highly motivated employees who strive to work hard, be part of a team environment, and learn new skills. Meaningful employment has been shown to be a critical factor in successful recovery from mental illness.

We have found the key to this success is a partnership between the employer, the employee and COVA. COVA’s many services for employers range from helping fill open positions with qualified employees to providing workplace consultation services to maximize employee performance and satisfaction.

COVA believes there is a job to match the skills and needs of each client seeking job placement. Our services for employers include:
  • Qualified Staffing - COVA helps bring qualified, skilled employees to the workforce with the support of COVA training and staff. COVA gives all program participants specialized training and support, assisting them to successfully work in the community. Supporting every job candidate is a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including certified rehabilitation counselors, licensed professional counselors, licensed social workers, benefits specialists and a dedicated administrative team.

  • Psychiatric Disability Management – Workplace consulting services are designed to minimize the impact of employee mental health problems. With the incidence of mental illness at one oif every four people, it is likely most employers have staff with mental illnesses and related issues. Our workplace intervention services include worksite assessment, case management, return to work planning, worksite coaching, management coaching, training and education, and employer consultation.

  • Linkage to Tax Incentives – We can help employers determine if they are eligible for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC).

  • Improved Employee Retention – Our placements have an 18-month retention rate of 95 percent, helping employers gain productivity and a competitive advantage. Upon employment, both employers and candidates have continued access to COVA’s career developers to address any emerging issues and ensure success.

  • Added Diversity in the Workplace – Equal opportunity employers have found having an employee referred to their organization gives staff an opportunity to break down barriers and stigma, and gain a more educated, enriched workforce.

  • Partnership Options – In addition to hiring a person using COVA services, employers may get involved by offering volunteer positions or unpaid job tryouts or job shadowing.

  • Disability Management Seminars – Periodic seminars are designed to help employers manage mental health issues without substantial risk of liability; satisfy obligations under the ADA, FMLA, collective bargaining agreements and disability plans; address common misconceptions surrounding legal issues, and more.
